Lowe criticises continued detention of activist Danny Tommo
The Restore Britain leader calls it "absolutely outrageous" that Daniel Thomas remains on remand ahead of a trial set for next year.
Rupert Lowe has criticised the continued detention of activist Daniel Thomas, known to supporters as Danny Tommo, who is on remand awaiting trial.
The Restore Britain leader wrote on X at 14:49 BST on Tuesday 13th October: "It is absolutely outrageous that Danny Tommo is still behind bars."
Mr Thomas, 37, was refused bail at Portsmouth Crown Court on Tuesday 29th September, The Independent and The News, Portsmouth reported.
He is charged with criminal damage over allegedly damaging a boat on 22nd September, according to The Independent. He is also charged with failing to comply with a notice under section 49 of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000. The Independent reported that this related to the Pin to his phone. He denies both charges.
Mr Thomas appeared by videolink from HMP Winchester, The News reported. His barrister, Simon Pentol KC, proposed a "package of bail conditions", which The News said included GPS monitoring. Judge James Newton-Price KC refused bail.
The Independent reported the judge as saying: "I am not concerned with the political issues or motivations in this matter and I put them aside in deciding this matter."
The judge set the next hearing for Thursday 12th November and a provisional trial date of 1st March 2027, according to both reports.
Mr Lowe did not give further detail in his post.
